EXPORT REQUIREMENTS
If your business ships products internationally, your pallets must meet strict guidelines before they can be used for export. Heat treatment and proper certification are required to ensure wood packaging materials are safe and compliant.
HT pallets are regulated under ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures), which outlines how pallets must be treated and marked for global transport.
GUIDELINES FOR REUSED / REPAIRED PALLETS
When it comes to reusing or repairing pallets for export, specific rules apply:

Reused Pallets
Pallets that have not had any wood replaced may not require additional heat treatment or re-stamping. -
Repaired Pallets
If up to one-third of the pallet is repaired, all replacement wood must be heat-treated and properly marked. -
Re-Manufactured Pallets
If more than one-third of the pallet is replaced, the original stamp must be removed, and the pallet must be heat-treated again and re-certified. -
Non-Compliant Pallets
Any pallet without proper treatment or certification cannot be used for international shipping.
HT STAMP AND CERTIFICATION
Heat-treated pallets must carry a valid certification stamp to verify compliance. In the United States, these standards are overseen by regulatory organizations that ensure pallets meet ISPM-15 requirements before being approved for export use.
In many cases, repaired or modified pallets must be re-treated and re-stamped to maintain certification, ensuring the integrity and safety of international shipments.
